Thorn's was a classic restaurant from another time loved by residents and visitors alike. Matt & KellyAnn, owners of Salted Roots Cabins, purchased the restaurant in early 2022. A departure from high-end accommodation, this was their natural next step in hospitality. Although we cannot keep the name, we want to keep the history. The Flamingo was an old bar in Seward in the 50s. The new lounge will keep more of the same - a traditionally simple steakhouse with an upscale cocktail menu.
"When the opportunity for Thorn’s came around we were and still are humbled. Thorn’s was an instant classic. Truly Seward’s living room – we fell in love with it over buckets of butt and white Russians long before we knew it would be ours. But Thorn’s is Gene’s legacy, and what he did was ultimately his – it’s nothing we can or should take credit for. We can though, honor and continue the legacy. So we have a blending of histories – an intersection and continuation of fish net stockings and fish net provisions. We hope to breath new life into old history – and create a few memories along the way."

The Flamingo opened in February 1953. The papers called it a “beautifully appointed, completely modern establishment” with coral hues and mahogany paneling. "Ultra modern is the only word to describe the new cocktail bar, Flamingo." It had huge upholstered chairs in flamingo red. Originally established in the side street of the Liberty Theater, patrons would not know of its existence except for the neon lighted flamingo on the street corner. The Flamingo, over the course of its 30 year original existence, transformed into an establishment with survived by scandalous gossip and stories full of history. So, why the Flamingo? Why wouldn’t we. Bringing back the best parts of its history, with the newest twist on modern.

"The Flamingo name came to a head in a few different directions. One, we said what everyone says at some point in their life – we should own a bar. Smarter people don’t follow through on those dark thoughts. But we always said it should be called the Flamingo – because it didn’t belong. It was like us at the time, seasonal employees in search of a home. Shortly after we learned there was a Flamingo before us. A flagship modern go-go club with paid entertainers if you will. A place of gritty lore and after midnight magic stories."
